Brief History of PP

In 2011-12 the Government launched its Pupil Premium funding (PPF). This money is sent to schools based on the numbers of pupils in the school who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM). From 2013-14, it has been expanded to include all children who have been eligible for FSM within the last 6 years. In addition, children whose parents work in the forces or Children in Care also receive a grant.

Principles of the Pupil Premium Funding

We ensure that Teaching and Learning meets the needs of all the pupils.

We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of children who receive the PPF are adequately assessed and addressed.

In making provision for pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive FSM are disadvantaged.

We also recognise that not all pupils who are disadvantaged are registered and qualify for FSM. We reserve the right to allocate the PPF to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school legitimately identify as being disadvantaged. Each intervention will be inclusive of children receiving the PPF.

All our work through the PPF will be aimed at accelerating progress, moving children to at least age related expectations or more. Initially this will be in Reading, Writing and Maths, and boosting their confidence levels.

The following approaches have been selected:

  • tutoring in  small groups  in English and mathematics (led by teachers)
  • additional reading support
  • individual and family support from a school based  child psychotherapists/counsellors
  • subsidies for extended school provision and clubs
  • Staff training on high quality learning & teaching
  • ICT resources to support pupils' learning
  • Speech and Language therapy for individuals and groups
  • Release time for teachers to meet with pupils on an individual basis to discuss their learning, looking at marking, effective feedback and learning styles.
  • Sports after school clubs for Puil Premium children who show promise for specialist athletics.

By undertaking the approaches identified above, the school aims to raise and improve target pupils’:

  • self-esteem
  • progress and achievement
  • attitude towards learning
  • well-being and mental health
  • access to after school clubs  

A pupil premium action plan has been written for the academic year: outlining pupils/groups that are a priority, action to be taken, a timeline and costing. The action plan will be reviewed termly.
